Best IT Implementations: PeopleSoft HRMS Misses Award

PCQuest Best IT ImplementationsYesterday, when the Best IT Implementations of the year 2010 – a coveted award by the PCQuest Magazine, was declared, it was bad luck for the PeopleSoft HRMS 9.0 implementation at ICICI bank. The project, which was implemented by IBM was nominated in the Business Process Management and Automation category of the award.

The project was a single instance deployment of customized PeopleSoft HRMS package to automate the HR life cycle of its 36000 employees spread across various time zones. Also, the labour laws, rules, regulation and year end calendars being different for all countries make the requirements very complex. There were more than 50 legacy systems which needed to be integrated on a common dashboard environment.  Also, ICICI Bank is expecting around 2.7 lac new applications in the financial year 2010-2011 for its various positions.

To counter these problems, ICICI implemented a customized PeopleSoft9.0 HRMS from IBM. They deployed the system in one instance for the whole of its workforce. With this, they have been able to cover and maintain  complete HR-Life cycle of an employee from recruitment to resignation.  The total process of employee on-boarding and providing network authentication, email-id creation, assignment to department and designation, intimation, etc happens within the system. To be able to deploy and manage this system, ICICI is using 8 instances App Server, 5 Database Servers, 1 high end web server – all Solaris servers. Physical load balancer is also used to be able to manage the varying load from time to time.

The project to which the PeopleSoft implementation oat ICICI bank lost was the Bharti Airtel Unified GIS system – a single repository of Airtel’s entire network inventory on a GIS, its attributes and geographic information which went on to become Overall Best IT Project of the year 2010.

The category winner for Best Automation Project was Punjab National Bank’s CBS@RRB which dealt with the implementation of Core Banking Solution in Punjab National Bank’s sponsored 6 Regional Rural Banks with 1400 branches.

Infosys Technologies was awarded the most Complex Project award for its Pro-active Performance Risk Analysis and Remediation Governance Model which takes a pro-active approach in analyzing performance issues with Web applications and databases to ensure the end users concentrate on business and not fight lousy applications.

Another interesting fact about the nominations was that ERP and CRM nominations together accounted for 13% of the total nominations. Read more about the award here.
